End of a Camera Era

Well, its official.  I’m selling my Canon EOS 20D,  along with much of its accessories and the EF-S 17-85mm Lens.  The thing has been on alot of trips and has been a faithful shooting camera — from Toronto to Hawaii and everywhere in between.   Scott, you’d better take care of it!

Its going to be strange to not have an SLR for even a little while.  I’ve got my G9 + flashes to tide me over.  The money is going to go towards my apartment, at least until the 50D or the 5DmarkII comes out.   Then I’ll be looking to buy the replacement.

…  maybe.  I’m also intelligent enough to realize that once I’ve sold my 20D, I may not be able to afford a replacement for a year or more.

*sniff* Camera go bye bye!

Henry Rollins : In NYC, October 30th.

Son of Poker Night : One Day More

Alrighty then.  Son of Poker Night is tomorrow.   If you have previously told me you were coming, either through LJ, FB, or AIM, you’re set.   If you were not sure you were coming and had me guessing, now’s the time to confirm.  I need to buy food.

If you did not know about this and feel like spending a day playing poker, eating spicy chili and watching TV, you can ask.  Just know that space is tight.  (Hey its an apartment in Manhattan…)

I have 9 people definite and 4 people tentative.

New York Hanjotei. September 17th. Need a +1.

I have reservations to see Sanshi Katsura’s “New York Hanjotei” event this September 17th. The RSVP was for two, and I am one. Anyone wish to join me?  Sorry, the tickets have been snatched up!

For those of you scratching your heads, Katsura-san is the gentleman who performs English Rakugo. I wanted to see him at Otakon but the opportunity didn’t allow for it.

Many thanks to Maile who handed me her reservations!

Snicker Worthy Tidbits, and more books..

Just a few things that made me snicker recently.

1.  An email from the speed dating site titled, “Doggy Style Speed Dating” — advertising a speed dating event where you bring your pet dog along.  Now, the idea is fairly decent and amusing.. The naming however caused me to bust my nose snorting…   I think someone raised an eyebrow because the next time they advertised it they changed the name..

2.  A consultant in a recent business meeting asking for a report, specifically an “Analytical Analysis.”   I believe that I need to file this consultant under “Redundant Redundancy.”

3.  Someone asked me what happened to a coworker, who had been delayed in the cafeteria.  Completely deadpan I said, “Sorry.  Chupacabra.”

On a different note, based off of recommendations from both Oshi and Murnkay, I’ve picked up “World War Z” — chilling book.  Great book.  Worthy read.  And its got zombies.  O sht zmbes gtfo fire l8r.

You know, I could post about several things today, but I’m going to post about this instead.

Its a lens.  A lens that opens to f/0.95.   EVERY camera geek in the house understand I think why I just made a minor mess at my desk.     Yours for the low low price of…  *GASP*  $11,000.

I may be lusting after alot of things, but oh man…  This little baby..  Ohhhh *shudder*  XD

The article goes on to link to another article discussing a f/0.7 lens.  *feels fingers twitch with violent envy…*

Random Zoom Zoom

Been busy.

  1. Got hospital bills at least started on resolution.
  2. Randomly had Drunken Noodles last night with Mar who was in town on business.
  3. Have been told Apartment is still in the works.
  4. Been crazy busy at work.
  5. Took a gamble last night.  Dice are rolling.
  6. Have a minor (major) @$*%ton of paperwork to do at home tonight.
  7. Been listening to songs from Enchanted and other musicals.  Constantly.  I might have tooth decay now.
  8. Now that cooler weather is starting to return, have started exercising again. (Yeah, I know, reverse seasonal glitch, sue me.  I’m a winter boy.)
  9. Found it amusing that the jerks of the double decker commuter train were in synch with the music I was listening to this morning.  Started grooving to it.  Commuter cha-cha anyone?
  10. Poker last week was good, with Rounders being our dinner movie and bookended by actual play.   Poker party again this saturday.  Chili to be cooked, guests to be hosted, and people to be thrown out by sunday morning.  Whee!

Fin.  Smile everyone, its Wednesday!

Red Tape, Medical Tape, and Rain

Well, finally got someone at the management company for the new apartment — in fact I was speaking to the girl whose printer I fixed.   That started things off on good footing - I’m glad that little bit of kindness has kept me in her memory.

(Cynic : I paid the management off and she’s going to remember me as free tech support.)

Anyway, all my application information is in hand, they’re only waiting on the city to confirm.  The building is complete but still has some “minor construction” going on, so they’re still in meetings to determine move in dates.  In theory they’ve requested floor plans and square footage measurements for this week, and I’ll be the first to know when they have them.

(Cynic : The city is investigating me and management is giving me the brushoff.  I’m really just spinning my wheels, and they’re just trying to be nice and get me to hang up the phone.)

I think I’ve managed to get a $500 dollar bill removed by calling the hospital and getting the grumpy, kinda slow but thorough man on the phone to realize they never actually tried to collect the money from insurance…

(Cynic : Yeah right.  The guy couldn’t put words together into a sentence, and it took you three DAYS of calling to get someone with a pulse on the phone.  That’s assuming he had a pulse.  You weren’t sure.  You really think they’re gonna bill the right company.  YEAH RIGHT, next you’re going to try and sell me the brooklyn bridge.)

The rain came and went, with much noise and bluster but just a nice refreshing downpour that cleaned the grounds.

(Cynic : And triggered the flood.  See you on the other side people.)

Disney’s Enchanted has successfully…

charmed the heck out of me.

There’s a small dent in my forehead from my hand smacking myself, but my god.. This movie was just plain charming.  The fact that they managed to pull of a certain convincing New York sensibility to it really made it even more enjoyable.

Oh, and I uh.. was a huge fan of Alan Menkin’s Disney soundtracks.. CD ordered..

Damnit.  I can’t deny it.. Its even got me thinking… just how cool would it be to duplicate certain dance scenes at the Dragon*con parade??   XD

Holy shit.  Am I talking about costuming?  Oh dear god!  *falls over*
