$15 Dollar Single Serving Senseo Coffee System

April 23rd, 2008 No comments

Alrighty.

Its not the best system out there.  However, for an office desk, its pretty damned nifty.

http://www.sharesenseo.com/

Fill out a survey, convince them that you’ll promote the product, and get a full kit for $15 in shipping.  Its definitely legit — looks like its a joint marketing venture between Phillips and Sara Lee.  I paypaled my payment, and had the unit in about 7 days.   Have used it all day today.

The Good : Its pretty slick looking, generates coffee pretty damned fast, and fits in the corner of my cubicle quite easily.  Also doubles as a hot water maker.  Dirt cheap.  Easy cleanup with the pod system – and drinkable coffee.  Cheaper than paying 1.75 per cup in the building’s snack area.  The water/coffee is PIPING HOT.

The Bad : Its idea of a cup of coffee is 4oz.  That’s a SIP to me.   The basic pods will barely generate 8oz before turning into water – and stir your coffee before sipping or you’ll get something that tastes like dirty water.   Its also still a kitchen appliance – using in the office might some funny looks.   It also sounds like you’ve got a vibrator — put some tape on the metal rack to dampen the vibrations.

The expected : Of course they expect you to use their pods – how else do they make their money?  There are refillable pods and also third party filter replacements.  Water tank is tiny – holds only about 7 cups (28 oz) of water before pinging empty.   Takes up, if you think about it, similar space to an average coffee maker – larger than a hotel coffee maker.  No heating element to keep your coffee warm – you’re SUPPOSED to drink it right away folks.

Anyhow – if you’re willing to sign up to pimp their stuff, $15 is a heck of a deal.

More Pimping — Oh Consumerism, how I love Thee…

February 29th, 2008 No comments

Playing again with the Widget function of Amazon Associates.   Occasionally I post links to things I like, well I’ve put a widget on my website that’ll have all of my previous and current recommendations…  Called “Shopping cart of a Geek” – it’ll be on the right sidebar of the actual blog.

Posted under the cut to save people’s F-list’s.  :)

Amazon $10 Gift Certificates!

October 16th, 2007 No comments

Coinstar : Our Products

Sooooo – I love coinstar machines.  They’re a lazy way to convert money into cash.  Better yet, if you take money in the form of Amazon gift certificates, you don’t pay a service fee.

Fun thing – right now if you convert 30 bucks into an amazon gift certificate you can get an additional $10 gift certificate as a rebate form.   I’m not getting paid to note this, I just love the idea of some extra bucks.  Go for it people! XD

Mission Accomplished – Wii now have Whee.

September 25th, 2007 No comments

Well, last night after work I jetted over to the Times Square Toys R Us and picked up a Wii.  It was not hard — they have a healthy stock and they’re still throttling down to 1 per guest.  So, I grabbed mine and prepared to walk home. Then I decided to take care of a requested Christmas order, and picked up a second at the Nintendo Store.  The representative there informed me that the Nintendo Store is having no problem staying in stock.

So, if you are like me and haven’t gotten a Wii, and want to get a Wii, and for some reason can’t find a Wii..  Let me know and I’ll grab one for you.

—-

As for the Wii itself?  Well, I’ll need to buy some supplies before I can go online, and I have nothing but the base unit.  However, my arms are tired from flailing around like an idiot, and my room is so damned tiny, I’m not far enough from the screen for it to register that well so everything’s slightly “off”.   Damned city apartments.. >_<;

And now Wii speak of something completely different.

September 24th, 2007 No comments

Alright, so now for something completely different.

I spent all weekend running chores and most of the weekend without a computer.  I started a complete hard drive integrity test that took all weekend to run.  (That’s some deep burn testing!)   Consequently I also got alot of reading done.

I’ve decided I’m going to buy a Wii for myself.. (and for some christmas shopping too) — when you spend too much time checking out deals and stuff, its a sign I should just get it and stop waffling about it.

Sooooo – what do you folks think I should get as initial games?   Remember I tend to prefer strategic or tactical games, action games are not as strong an interest for me.  (which is amusing given the nature of the controller…  And the fact that I totally sucked at most of the games I played in Toronto and Baltimore…)

Oh.. and of course I have to ask…  Poker on the wii, does it exist?  ;)

Completely Addicted to Bolay

August 21st, 2007 No comments

Mmmm, tea.

So I grew up drinking all sorts of tea, especially when in Chinatown.   As a jook-sing (american born chinese) I pretty much had no idea what I was drinking.  I just knew I liked it.  “Hey dad, get the good stuff!  I don’t know what it is, just get it!”

As I got older I eventually thought to ask what I was drinking just so I could try and ask for it myself when I went out.  I never remembered.   In fact it was only by luck that I remembered “Bolay” — and at that point with some google searching I found it.  (Yes, I know — I’m showing my cantonese roots.   I guess its “pu-erh” in Mandarin..

Anyway, a quick Amazon order later and I have the Adagio marketed version of the stuff in teabags.   Realistically its the cheap stuff but its still better than Lipton..  In an eight ounce cup its like an everlasting teabag.  Its got a rich taste that standard tea bags are useless for.   Very relaxing.   :)

At about 33 cents a pop I’m finding its a great workplace tea.

Canon 40d officially announced..

August 20th, 2007 1 comment

Alright, so I know I was seriously considering one of the 5D full frame cameras, given the insanely cheap price point they’re at now.   However, for those of you considering an SLR anytime soon — the new 40D from Canon is seriously drool-worthy.  (Yes, Drool worthy.  So I’m a geek.)

They’ve added live view (Frame shots in the LCD) to the thing, and the base 18-55m lens now has IS capability.  WTF!

My 20D is starting to show its age..  *ponder ponder*

Oh, and of course they announced a 12.1 MP version of my canon Elph with SD capability too.  Augh, and I just bought mine!   … I forsee lots of selling on Amazon soon.. >_<;;

Mmmm, camera goodies.

August 14th, 2007 No comments

I’ve purchased a second flash (Canon 430EX) and two gorilla pods so as to mount them for upcoming events and weddings.  I’m looking forward to seeing how I can utilize a double flash rig.

I find it amusing the various methods of flash bouncing attachments that are out there.   They range from simple to outlandish, and can cost anywhere from 5 dollars to 150 dollars.  I’ve experimented with a few, but I think I’m going to go old school – and just rubberband a fucking index card to the flash head.  Jeesh.

I do have to resist the temptation to buy this tho.  130 dollars for a 8gb CF card?  very very tempting.

Bling out your DS..

August 13th, 2007 No comments

A fresh link thanks to Gizmodo (who thanks yet another person/blog for bringing it to THEIR attention).   This is some hot chrome action for your DS.

Metal Mario: Magnum Chrome, DS Bling – Gizmodo

Speaking of the DS, I have to admit that the DS has fully taken my soul when it comes to gaming platform.  With the added ability to watch videos on the road, I couldn’t be happier.  ..  well, okay I could — if I could get MORE storage capacity and a sexy blonde to massage my shoulders while I play on the train, I’d be even happier.   But while the former will eventually happen, the latter is quite unlikely.  ;P
