charmed the heck out of me.
There’s a small dent in my forehead from my hand smacking myself, but my god.. This movie was just plain charming. The fact that they managed to pull of a certain convincing New York sensibility to it really made it even more enjoyable.
Oh, and I uh.. was a huge fan of Alan Menkin’s Disney soundtracks.. CD ordered..
Damnit. I can’t deny it.. Its even got me thinking… just how cool would it be to duplicate certain dance scenes at the Dragon*con parade?? XD
Holy shit. Am I talking about costuming? Oh dear god! *falls over*
Last year I went and saw a movie every week throughout the month of August. This year, not waiting until then.. 🙂
So, in addition to Mid-Week Eats, we now have Movies in the Middle. 🙂 The first will be this Tuesday night!
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 7:00PM
312 W. 34th Street (by 8th Ave)
People, get yer own tickets, expect to meet up at 6:30 by the front. See you there!
So all tonight…
Has been listening to tracks that I ripped after raiding my CD collection yesterday.
Aladdin prompted much discussion about various Disney musicals and the general horror show they’ve been other than the glory arc that started with Little Mermaid and ending with Lion King…
Which led to me hunting down the CD’s for Robin Hood, Medicine Man, Glory….
Which led to all of the broadway musicals of course…
And all this Musical talk must have triggered my Tivo’s hind-brain, because it started recording of all things.. GREASE.
… So right now I’m bopping along with “You’re the one that I want”
… the soundtrack of a Tuesday night. XD
Akeelah and the Bee
The cynic in me really wants to dislike the movie. He says, “Come on, another movie that’s feel good, inspirational, and too good to possibly ever happen in real life? Yeah, give it up, its more drek.”
But yuaknow what — inspirational, feel good movies have their place. So if this pops up on Showtime near you, take a moment and watch it. You’ll have a warm spot in your heart, watching a rough neighborhood kid do well at the Spelling Bee.
Oh, and I’ll refrain from being snippy about the “jerk” of the movie being Chinese. -_-;
Seriously tho – its a pretty typical but decently executed inspirational film, good for the spirit.
