Adventure time!

February 11th, 2010 No comments

So, thanks to circumstances and timing — I will be going to the West Coast for a few days at the end of the month. I will start in Los Angeles, and end in Las Vegas.   In between is somewhat open.

At the very least I’ll try to wander Los Angeles, and then I’ll probably take a bus to Las Vegas.  Possible detours include Malibu, San Diego or Santa Barbara.

Goal is to travel light, travel fast, and camp out on people’s floors.

Any suggestions?

5 hours, 2 hour delayed flight, slow air-train, slow commuter train, and taxi ride later, and I’m finally home from Raleigh, NC.  A real quick trip, but good company, good food and a quick photo shoot later, and I’m pretty much exhausted and ready to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh yeah, L4D is crazy.

And my knees are angry from all the squatting.

But I’ve managed to relocate my right hip.  *whew*

*faint*  *drool*

Mental Snapshots of Atlantic City

June 7th, 2009 No comments

1:30am via Facebook: Doc is listening to the sound of snoring and thinking the casino is more peaceful….. XD

3:33am via Facebook: Doc won 31 in poker, lost 25 putzing on slots and such, and currently just wants to make the snoring stop…  Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop!!!!

3:45am, Hotel Lobby:  I’m currently watching people wander into the Hotel.   I’ve seen several drunk women stagger in.  Most of them without shoes.  Why would you take your shoes off in Atlantic City?  Their soles are black.. they’re BLACK!  Its kind of disturbing.

3:50am, Hotel Lobby:  Oh my.  The couple that just walked in, they’re going to obviously get busy..   If they can maintain awareness of their surroundings for long enough to not faint in the elevator..  (Did he just blatantly grab her ass in the lobby?  Yes he did..)

More train of thought under the cut…

Atlantic City Rehash, and two Postscripts.

May 25th, 2009 No comments

So got woken up by a phone call at 7:30A.M.  Instead of hiking through possible thunderstorms, family decided they would go to Atlantic City.

We got there about noon, parked at Caesar’s.  Walked down one way towards Showboat, toured the amusement parks.  The family splits here, with some of us invading Trump Taj for free money, the kids and their uncle exploring the amusement parks and getting an addiction to go-karts, and me going off to see if I could make some money putzing around on slots.  (The poker rooms were full up, I figured there was no way for me to get any gaming in..)

I putz away 20 bucks, the rest of the family get delayed and I find myself bored in Atlantic City with another hour to burn.  (Usually a bad thing.)  walk back to Showboat, and get lucky enough to score a poker table (2/4 Limit), and make back some of my cash.   This is a great table but I’d agreed to meet my family at 5:30, so I rush back after winning just a couple of hands.

Then the slot players turn out to be delayed AGAIN, leaving me to lounge outside the Taj.. Just to see a really tall fellow hanging out by the Amusement Park.   Its Penn Jillette, completely casual, hanging out with his family.   I leave them alone, as I often do with celebrities, as I figure they usually are just trying to have a nice day with their loved ones unbothered by the unwashed masses.

I wander over to the Tropicana, where we finally all link up, and snag a huge stomach busting dinner at Carmine’s.  We stagger out of Carmine’s, and as we get to Caesars I muse about trying to snag free parking.  The kids jump on this idea, figuring “HEY lets do the go karts again!”  My uncle is all for this, as I think he’s getting addicted to.

… I go on Video Roulette, drop twenty trying to get free parking, then win it all back and ten more.

Finding myself with another 40 minutes I walk down to the poker room (following a very pretty white dress) and sit down at another 2/4 table.  I PROMPTLY win sixty in the first hand with a river flush. (Classic limit scenario, had flush and straight draws, with a ton of callers before me, so I had to keep going..)

Later had KK and took another pot down, but bled away a little bit with blinds and broken draws.  On my very last announced had, I land pocket fives, which improve to trip fives.  Unfortunately, I have one person on a draw who rivers a straight and busts my fives.  That’s OK — since I started at the table with a rivered draw to nail five people, its only fair for it to happen to me.  I left the table still ahead by 37 dollars on a 60 dollar buy in.

After ups and downs I landed 42 dollars ahead, between dinner and other food my trip was basically paid for.

And I got the free parking.

Postscript 1: On the way back we ran into traffic on the Garden State Parkway.   We passed by near work, and found the cause.  A horrific accident, looks like both sides of the road had been shut down, and there was a white SUV that skidded, flipped, landed upside down on the driver’s side ON the divider railing, and skidded some MORE on the railing itself..  Three fire trucks and two ambulances, one with their sattelite antenna raised, and about 15 people crowded around the truck.  Thankfully, we did not see visible blood on the outside, but…  Well, one hopes they get the guy out, cus it was clear the only way he was being removed was by cutting him out….

Postscript 2: Got home, got to my floor, and startled two women who were CLEARLY dressed to go out and impress.   I was speechless.   One of them (I think the one who lived on my floor) said an almost embarrassed “hello” — I think I responded likewise but I was still a little too brain broken to do much else.  A pleasant “eep sorry almost ran you over” ending to the evening.

Postscript 3: Surprise, one more.  I think I’m going to sleep in on my holiday day…  But I’ll probably check on my parents.

Postscript 4: Last one, I swear.   HOUSEWARMING IS IN LESS THAN WEEK!  WHEEEEE!

Photopost : Vegas Helicopter Ride

I’m still pretty much exhausted, so just a quick post.

Yes, I really did go up in one of the tour helicopters.  It was alot of fun, even if I felt the slight queasiness of motion sickness for the rest of the day…

Anyway, more when I’m rested and not packing for the move.   Now that I’m back its time to actually move my stuff to the new apartment.  I’m committed to being settled in at least most of the way by my birthday!  *shakes fist*

Exhausting but Fun Weekend

June 8th, 2008 No comments

I’m back from Atlantic City and ScottoAlexKat-a-con. Happy birthday to all three! Much love to Elf, Jim, Geoff, Scott, Alex, and Kat for making it a fun weekend.

I’m still overheated, sunburned, exhausted, and probably sick with a sore throat of some sort.

Gambling was pretty ugly – A great video roulette run and a decent Craps run was offset by bad hammering at Video Roulette while trying to milk comps. As for Poker — after a bad misstep on my part due to a misread and distraction, my luck went completely and utterly sour. Even perfect play acknowledged by other players was rewarded with very bad river beats. The topper was being beated with quad 10’s in the last hand of poker I played, where I’d done the right actions but just ran up into an almost impossible set of odds. *sigh* — So yeah, card playing was very discouraging, and I’ll take a few months to work around the violent swing my play took.

Oh, and being on the shore and in the casinos – a good number of good looking women just to torture me in a shallow, visual, totally unsubtle way.  I certainly didn’t mind seeing the eye candy, and I can certainly see myself being interested the looks of your stereotypical “Jersey Girl”.

However, if you’ve got “Aeropostale” written on the back of your hot-shorts and are busy talking about getting drunk as quickly as possible, I might never make it past the wringing neck feeling that might course through my fingers… You know, the one where your fingers just start twiching closed? yeah. ;P

Anyway, too tired to talk anymore, let alone post photos. A bunch of nice photos to post too… Just need time to sort through. Oy. -_-;; Now, to try and brace myself to survive 100 degree weather..

Shark in the Water!

June 5th, 2008 No comments

Tomorrow, I head down to Atlantic City, for a weekend of celebrating birthdays (THREE OF THEM), partying like a rockstar (well at least I’ll be drinking rockstars), and gambling.

Warning, warning, SHARK IN THE WATER!

I’m going to be a shark amongst the sharks.  We’ll see if my instincts have continued to improve.  Here’s hoping I net a few monster hands at the no-limit tables.  XD

Road Rage…ish. (365.139)

Originally uploaded by Doc Stampede

The trip home was long, down a winding road. Ohio. is flat. Pennsylvania.. is wide. Trucks that randomly block two lane highways just because they can deserve to be run off the road.

Thank goodness for Best Buy and comedy CD’s or this photo might have ended really badly.

Project 365 – Entry 139.

I’m going to sleep. More on the weekend when I have time to upload and process photos.

Photopost : Weekend Rundown

May 5th, 2008 No comments

A quick sampling of the photos from this weekend. More photos are up on both Flickr and my Galleries.

One Beat Up Car
This poor car was covered in scrawled tags. Amazingly enough we think its still an active vehicle!!

Resting on the Boardwalk
This portrait was shot in the blind, with my camera below the hip. He was just sitting on the boardwalk, smoking his cigarette, people watching. It seemed to match the day’s mood perfectly.

A few more of my preferred shots under the cut.
