Terribly Sorry, Mentally Detained by Apartment Planning

I’ve made it through the first stage of reviews.  I now wait three to four weeks to verify everything else.

Most of my initial fears about being eligible for the apartment have been settled.  That doesn’t bar possible last minute “Oh wait we didn’t see THIS before..” issues, but at least so far I’m OK.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see any apartments, the building is still being worked on.  Hopefully in the next few weeks I get to see a place.  Then I can confirm whether I’m going for a studio or a one-bedroom.   At least currently I suspect it will be a studio, they indicated that its about 500 sq. ft. — that’s good for a manhattan studio.   Floor plans for the 1BR in the Co-Op building indicate 585 sq. ft. — but at an extra 500 a month.  I kinda sorta need that money.

If this really happens I may be moving as early as September.  This means I’ll be scrounging and scraping EVERY PENNY until then.  I will also likely drop out of any sort of travel for the rest of the year.  That’s not committed to yet, but its becoming more and more likely.

Holy @()*&%.  This may be happening, and a year ahead of schedule.   *dances*

Oh… and in a totally different bit of amusement that may have made me some friends… I fixed their network printer while I was waiting for my interview.  *laugh*

Light on the StreetOriginally uploaded by Doc Stampede

Sun’s setting on the Lower East Side - reflecting off the windows and casting a gentle mood on the entire area. In the distance, signs of the encroaching future of the area, as new buildings rise every day.

So here’s a thought for consideration. Thinking about this photo, and reading several blogs that like to lament the loss of New York City as we know it, I ask you this. Why are we screaming and crying? I’m not saying what’s happening is right - I’m questioning why we’re angry. Alot of you are yawkers — you tell me. Why do you think the city has changed, and what does it mean to you?

Is it wrong for a city to change? Is New York City reinventing itself, and if its a genuine shift to a new paradigm is that actually a bad thing?

Change doesn’t come painless - there are spasms and twitches and outright murders, of thought and of ideas, but there are also births of new ideas and new thoughts. Is what we’re going through simply the natural progression of a large city as time passes, or is it something else, something darker and more regrettable?

So tell me folks, what does it feel like to you? And why?

And before you attempt to hang me — most of you know that I’m the first to lament many of the changes that have been happening.  I want to see and hear conversation tho.

Satisfied? Yes? Okay glad, because damn I’m tired. My trip to the meet market (yes, I’m spelling it that way on purpose) was interesting and different. Sure, I’d do it again.

I want to go ouuuuuutttttt…. next week. ;P

I need to get out of the house and do something local.

Next week, Wednesday, Feb 6th.  Dinner at some random place, I’m thinking Thai to keep it nice and spicy.   Open invitation.  Bring yourself, bring friends.  Just tell me if you’re coming.  7:30pm, Manhattan location, TBD.

Let there be noodles.

*edit*

Let me try that again….  Wednesday is Chinese New Year’s Eve!  Whoops!   So Wednesday Noodle Celebration Day will be Tuesday. -_-;;;  Feb 5th.  Be there to make fun of me and laugh!

Walk-in Urgent Care in MANHATTAN??!

Walk-In Health Care in New York | Duane Reade Walk-In Medical Care

Holy %)(*#%&)(#*&% — Duane Reade has opened up Urgent Care clinics in Manhattan??!    See, this is actually stunning - because until now if you needed to see a doctor during the weekend you were kinda out of luck.  It pretty much meant you were stuck going to the emergency room.  Worse, if you had no insurance, good luck finding any alternative other than an ER.

This is great - its about @)(*%&#)%*(#&%*#&%)(@*&@* time this option became available.  I’ll have to keep an eye on them as an alternative next time I get some kind of dumb ass sickness on a Saturday!

*grumble* Real Estate blog for the rest of us, anyone?

Alright folks.  City folks specifically.

Are there any real estate blogs for the rest of us?  You know, the people who don’t have rich parents to pay for apartments?  I’m so utterly disgusted by seeing sites like curbed.com that I really need to find people who talk about living in the city for the 90% of us who can’t afford it.

In other words, someplace that doesn’t cater to the people that you all know I am simultaneously jealous of and disgusted by.

*edit*  By the way, those of you who work for the money and have earned the money to pay for those outrageously pricey apartments?  Thumbs up to you!  I’m annoyed by the rich spoiled brats that take up spaces for no reason and wonder why everyone else wants them to die.

Suggestions and recommendations are welcome.

Foggy City Blues

IMG_5767

There’s a certain feel that descends upon the city when fog is in the air.  I actually love the city when its like this — it feels like a warm blanket that adds depth and sensation to every light in the sky.  This is from last night, some older shots after the cut.

New Gallery - Coney Island August 24, 2007

Coney Island 034

August 24 2007 Coney Island

August 24 2007 Coney Island Fireworks

There’s been quite a bit of chatter among the locals, talking about the eminent demise of Coney Island. I thought I’d go and visit the area, since I hadn’t been there for quite a long time.

Its a unique experience, a fond (or not so fond) reminder of entertainment provided by hearty (artery-clogging) food, carnies and the beach. There’s no need for expensive entertainment, specialty malls, or fine dining — we’re happy to lounge and drink by the sand on the boardwalk.

More thoughts and highlights under the cut.

New Gallery - August 18 2007 Photowalk

So I had this post all written out, then something burped and the entire thing got eaten. Augh - and I was so happy I could go to bed too..

Anyway, a new gallery has been uploaded - some shots from my wandering around town today. About 5.25 miles walked in the afternoon, then another 3.7 miles walked after the movie and dinner. A good day’s wandering!

Stardust is worth seeing - its alot of fun and simply entertaining through and through. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it — but since some plans got cancelled today I will be scheduling another trip so people have another opportunity to see it! I would pay money twice to see it. Dinner at Why Curry was great too. Good food and good company all day.

came home and got a nasty little surprise - a roach had wandered onto my desk and startled the shit out of me as I typed out some emails. I didn’t want to just crush it on my desk so I grabbed the nearest aerosol to choke it to death. Unfortunately that was a can of AXE body spray - so my entire desk smells like “Phoenix” now.

I desperately need some sleep so I can try and hit Coney Island as planned tomorrow. So go check out the pics, I’ve annotated them there.. And… Doc OUT.
