I was thinking today, as we reach the end of another series of arbitrary ranges of time, that many of us (myself included) have a tendency to “look back” at a year and decide whether we hated it or loved it. Then we start personifying the upcoming year, telling it that we’d “better” get or see something.
Life, the world, fate, the Mayans, Gods, Murphy, Karma, the end of an arbitrary range of… time, none of them owe us squat. While outside events impact our lives, what we do with our lives and our perception of our lives is primarially a product of our own actions.
I won’t paint 2012 as good OR bad, because life is infinitely more complicated and interesting than a binary analysis. We deserve more than to be painted in a simple series of yearly “GOOD” or “BAD” entries in a logbook. Whether you’re 12 or 70, I think each and every one of you mean more than that.
So, I don’t wish anyone a good 2013. I wish all of you a further collection of deep and interesting experiences, that you can draw from, work past, and build on to have amazing lives.
Terry – 2012 End
The Hurricane came by and wrecked the Northeast. The sound of car alarms going off one by one as cars got submerged along 5th avenue was a spooky soundtrack to weathering out the storm..
So I am off to Las Vegas for a quick weekend. This is mostly a work trip with a bit of relaxation as the reward..
I figured I would dust off the blog so here I am!
Started my trip after an extended work day, and a fairly exhausting set of work days as the aftermath of Otakon… Flying United, in style riding in first class..
This plane is BRAND NEW, no entertaient systems or wifi.. The leather smells like a new car.
Anyhow, landing in Vegas around midnight thanks to delays. 16 hour day tomorrow. ONLY 103 degrees during the day. Eep.
So, I’ve been in radio silence again for a bit, minus the Instagram posts…So here’s a Flickr set to kinda catch up. Here, some flowers, Crabby at the Barricades, A couple of shots from Otakon, and some amazing test shots from my new Sony DSC-RX100.. Enjoy!
Insomnia tonight says, “Post a picture.”
I dove into my archives and this popped up. (Japan subways, 2008)
So, in the various attempts to tie together the myriad different ways I post photos and random brain food on the internet, I’ve probably been tossing crazy stuff up and then deleting it, both here and on other sources. I’m rambling. Sorry if you’ve been privy to watching the contents of my internet um, privy pop on your screen.
I’ve almost got it figured it.
You’ll see me here… On Flickr.. On Instagram. Sometimes on Youtube. Instagram posts to Twitter, and there’s a plugin that automatically posts here, which then pushes content to Livejournal, and there’s a networked blogs app on Facebook that captures and should syndicate to my Facebook Page, and in theory that all works together. Except of course it’s all ducktaped together and who knows if it will blow up.
… and Google+. Oh damn, I forgot about them. Then again everyone seems to be forgetting about them. Argh.
In either case, you can catch me here, on LJ, on FB, on G+, on Twitter, on Instagram, but not on Pinterest. I haven’t gone there yet. And never Myspace. Sorry. 😛
Last day in Tokyo was full of morning meetings, then a quick zip through Studio Ghibli.
I spent my budget there. Will post that when I get home.
I tried to make a last minute trip to Nakano, but fell asleep on the train. Then, a tempura dinner with friends, and I dragged myself through the motions of trying to last minute shop around town before crashing…
Now, it is 6AM Tokyo time, and I have my final packing to do before getting out of town. So I end my trip on some nighttime shots of Shinjuku, and the insanity of the red light district here.
Wandered off to Kyoto for a day. Stayed at a beautiful Ryokan in old quarter of Kyoto. Got lost at night, didn’t find night festival (booo) — but had good food and relaxing touristy wanderings.
Alright. So Day 8 – my birthday. I decided I would go to Tokyo Disney.
So crowded….. I ended up leaving after the parade — simply too many people to bear! Visited Akihabara for about 60 minutes then went back to hotel..
Afterwards, meat dinner and sleep, because Wednesday I would be headed out to Kyoto..
Monday was a trip out to meet and socialize and work with some studio friends, and visit an amazing onsen in Hakone called Tenzan Tohji-Kyo. As such, no photos…
Well okay one.
Just the entryway into the onsen. So peaceful..
