For the camera geeks in the audience : A few links from Gizmodo to drool over
Those of you who heard and knew : There are links to a professional photographer who got his hands on a Canon 5D Mark II — and shot HD Video. The video is supposedly unenhanced. Just the screencaps alone illustrate why this has me SO bloody excited.

Hellbuny has one of these, and I’m quite jealous. The Lensbaby series of experimental lenses for SLR’s basically allows for selective shifting of the focal plane, and can yield some very amusing and funky effects. They just announced a new generation of lenses — and it is making me VERY sad that I sold my SLR. Check them out :

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got five bazillion negatives sitting around, taking up way too much space. I’ve been very tempted to dump all of the prints and convert all of them to digital images — this might be the simple and @()*%&@) cheap tool to do it.

And finally, just for fun, someone photoshopped a Zoom Lens into a Coffee Mug. Now, I had this lens myself (before I sold it) — so the mere concept of taking a zoom lens that costs five hundred dollars and turning it into a MUG is painful. However, the thought of a coffee mug that could extend in size like a zoom lens? Its amusing. “Oh hi boss, wait lemme grab my coffee *retract* OW SHIT COFFEE EVERYWHERE OWOWOW”

*EDIT* Oh. My. God. I just saw the video myself. This video deserves a stolen screencap (courtesy Gizmodo)

Okay, if it wasn’t clear, this is a screen cap from HD Video, unedited off of the camera. The ONLY resizing Canon did was to drop it to 1/4th the size so it could be served on the internet EASIER. If it wasn’t clear, this allows shooters to shoot HD Video in low light with 35mm lenses — what would normally have cost 30,000 DOLLARS is now workable at a third of that. I forsee alot of music videos, indy pieces, and porn being shot on these things. Its a genre changer.
Sorry ladies, I have a new love of my life. It is a camera. The EOS 5D Mark II. I will have her.
(God I’m such a dork.)
Glad so many people had a good weekend - many happy birthdays to Dustin, Serge and Alice. Wish I could have visited, but my weekend was occupied with this. Our kitchen, which has been totally torn out and redone. Its still not done, but its almost there.. Hopefully all finished by mid-week this week.
Oh yeah clearing so many cabinets… means our living room looks like a total explosion. Kitchen splody. Boom. Boom boom. Thankfully the kitchen didn’t go BOOM for real. The nosy neighbors might be giving us grief tho. -_-;
Yeah, so my weekend was boring - filled with dust, cleaning, arguing with contractors and hearing lots of construction noises..
Take a picture of yourself right now. Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair…just take a picture. Post that picture with NO editing. Post these instructions with your picture.
What? It was late, Scott came over to buy my SLR, and what. So its a post for both of us. BLARGH!
I got a strange error when I tried to mark a video as a favorite today. If you want to see the whole video, you should probably just click on the link. (No I promise its not a rickroll.)
(No, this did not actually appear. Really.)
Sunday at Dragon*Con really threw me off, being used to a 3 day convention, having a solid second day of con threw me off.
The Marriott is over 40 stories tall, and immediately triggers my brain’s “AHHH I’M REALLY HIGH UP AHHHH!!!” sensations. Its also structured in such a way to really feel like you’ve been eaten by some sort of large animal..
A friendly and creative homeless man was trying to sell flowers to girls for a dollar a flower, or three for five.. (flowers he probably picked up from a random shrubbery..) I actually gave him a dollar for one, because he was persistent, and fairly friendly in how he tried..
Sunday night brings out all of the casual (and not so casual) costumes.
This young man really worked his lightsaber in the open areas at the Marriott.
I didn’t shoot too much, since I had my lightweight rig and there were plenty of people out there taking photos already.
The con itself? I’ll post some more photos later, but it was fun. Hanging out with everyone was good, though I very much find myself wondering if the cost of attending the convention is worth it. I think if I *were* to go back, it’d have to be because the right batch of people were going. I’d like to see some places in Atlanta, didn’t have the opportunity to do so this time around. Also really *don’t* know how to NOT be staff..
Anyhow, decent weekend. Sleep time tho. Very very tired, as usual. *faint*
Kimmie’s Duck is made of Win — and peers over edges!
Don’t blink. Really. DO NOT BLINK.
If only it worked for Doctor Horrible..
Oh look I am Random Victim #15723 for the Dexter group. oh damn.
Yup. Got here. Plane flight went by in a blur. Plane flew over a small storm system on the way. That looked fun. Wanted to jump out of the plane and make snow angels in the clouds. Of course, that would have ended badly..
Spent much of the rest of the day in a half asleep haze. Linked up with some people here and there, hey there people! By the way, Crochet Duck is full of win and cute. Double-shot Expresso + Energy drinks from Starbucks are crack. Didn’t find a poker game. Kat got in at 2am. Sleepy. Sleep. So tired. SLEEP!
Struggled out of bed at 9:30, ran over to the parade. Got to the curve just in time to see Jon and Becky’s Little Mermaid costume, yay! Jon.. Don’t let go of that rolling rock.
Hey, its Todd! Oh, and stormtroopers. Lots of stormtroopers. Are they allowed to wave?
Okay. Taking nap now. Bye!
I find it difficult to sit down and write about Otakon 2008 – it was such a fast paced con that much of what happened was a blur of epic proportions. A week of sleeping less than 4 hours a day tends to wear hard, and I’m certainly not 23 anymore. Still I wouldn’t have it any other way – I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was addicted to the pace of running an event.I’ve said that running any con, especially one the size of Otakon, is like surfing the wave of disaster. Every year is a test to see just how well you can ride the wave and guide everything to safety and success. We managed this year to have a fairly smooth wave.If I really wrote everything about the con, I could go on forever. So, here’s a fairly rambling write-up that will probably shorten as I start to forget things, and as the pace starts to blur things may get.. fuzzy…
Oh yeah, if you want to get to where I list people, go to the end.. If you just want to look at the behind the scenes pictures, go to the flickr gallery. And if you want to listen to me cluck the Robot Chicken Theme Song, that’s fine too.

So anyhow, I was all busy and stuff all weekend, but we found time to relax here and there. Here I’m at the arena, waiting for the concert.
Anyhow, throughout the weekend music kept coming up. So did the Robot Chicken theme. In fact the theme is my ringtone, so as you can imagine I kept hearing the theme, over and over and over and over again. By the end of the weekend, I started clucking the Robot Chicken theme. CONSTANTLY. I ended up recording it. Here I am doing something I normally would never do - posting an audio file of me clucking the Robot Chicken theme. Its quite funny, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Doc clucking the Robot Chicken Theme Song.
