Lazy Sundays, Dramatic Poker Rescues on the River

November 30th, 2008 No comments

Today’s been a lazy sunday. Have been cleaning and doing much needed chores. Then decided to fire up my old nemesis, Pokerstars. Lady Luck is being good to me today.

I entered a satellite tournament with player points. Top 50 out of 500 players get to an $80,000 tournament. I played tight, played good poker, and only needed one really dramatic rescue..

(More poker after the cut — to spare non-players!)

Gizmodo : Singin In The Rain: Japanese Umbrella Is One Huge Speaker

So get this.  They’ve turned this umbrella into a speaker.  One that only transmits sound to the person underneath the umbrella.

Not only does this amuse me greatly and come across as pretty damned cool – but when I saw it I only thought one thing.

Vyxle : This belongs in the Red Umbrella at the temple.  Right?

Musical Interlude : Patience

And now, for a musical interlude..

Patience
(From the movie adaptation of Dreamgirls)

-C.C.
I know you have questions
same ones as me
How long has it been?
How long will it be?
When will come the morning
to drive the night away?
Tell me when will come the morning
of a brighter day?

(Chorus)
Patience, Little Sister
Patience, Little Brother
Patience, Patience
Take each other by the hand
Patience, Little Sisters
Patience, Little Brothers
Let us walk together
to the Promised Land

The Streets are Electric with the Election

November 5th, 2008 No comments

A Tourist AttractionI was sitting at my desk, distracted with some work. The last thing I’d seen was that Obama had 207. I’d paused my Tivo to listen to something else, and in my usual way was putzing around with other things. My primary notification that something had occured was the screaming I started hearing from the streets. In moments I’d switched my webpage and seen that the Obama had crossed the threshold.

Whatever you may think about the election, about the candidates, or what have you — the moment in time is significant. It may not be the cure-all that people wish it to be, but historical it is nonetheless.

The internet was buzzing, and the streets outside were filled with shouting, horns honking, celebratory screams, and then fireworks. About 15 minutes of this, and I couldn’t resist any longer. I went outside with my camera to see what I could find. Flickr set here, or a few more photos after the cut.
