Photopost : Bokeh Sunday

Its a quiet Sunday, and I’ve been in my room unwinding from a horrible week and trying to get chores done.

I got caught up taking pictures of the things I’d straightened up on my desk. Bokeh Sunday! Yay!

Turtle of Hawaii
This little guy has sat on my desk since the trip to Hawaii.  I always calm down a little bit when I stare it him.

My Friend, Penn
Meet Penn. I met him last week. He used to live his life on the courts, going back and forth between sides. These days he’s retired, and sits around eating casino chips and looking like a famous arcade game character.

He’s not very talkative.

Too Much Soda
I drink WAY too much Pepsi.  Way too much Pepsi..

Rant : Photographers being Targeted

Odd Photographer CampaignSo this has been making the rounds, but it strikes way too close to home for me to not mention.  See, London photographers have been facing increased scrutiny due to the ongoing fears of terrorism.

Lets face it, this is happening not just in London but everywhere.

Its gone as far as a new ad campaign by the London Metropolitan Police asking people to identify and report “odd” looking photographers.

… ODD photographers?  Do I even need to get into the insanity of this?

I take photos of odd places.  I enjoy taking photos of abandoned places, or behind the scenes photos.  I sometimes take notes of where I’m shooting for later discussion and contemplation.

*sigh*  I suspect I won’t be long for this world.  I’ll be taking a photo on one of my walkabouts and I’ll be shot in the head for suspicious activity.  -_-;

Oh god I need mass storage NOW.

So I’ve managed to fill a 350 gig drive full of designs and mostly raw photos.  COMPLETELY FILLED.

I desperately need to do some file management before something awful happens.  That 350 gigs contains every single digital photo I’ve taken since I started shooting in 2000.  I need viable mass storage options.  The space usage is growing exponentially, every JPEG takes 5 megs, RAW files are even larger.

I need mass storage.  Blu-ray consumer drives, please come out of your infancy quickly.  Please?   *sigh*

And I need to find a better way to build my photo libraries.. Ugh..  When I look at my data dump directories I have hundreds of folders that are labeled only by date.   Data Archival Expert I am NOT.  -_-;;

Photopost : Flickr’s Challenge You Group

So I’ve been experimenting with Flickr.  While I’m nowhere near as prolific as Alice or Sean, I’m starting to see the appeal in having a captive audience.

The real danger - I discovered a group that’s right up my slightly competitive mindset.   You post a photo, someone else posts a counter - and it goes to head to head competition for best photo.   (Each one is themed, with the first poster setting the theme..)

Only the winner may be posted in the photo pool.   Challenges fly by pretty fast — and its potentially a huge time sink.  But its fun.   XD

Flickr: Challenge You

Found it and posted yesterday.  I’m 2 for 2 on the direct heads up challenges.   I’m also in a special competition where a photo of Kat has been a steady contender.   (Thanks Kat!)  Photos under the cut.  (Under a cut because these are reposts..)

$15 Dollar Single Serving Senseo Coffee System

Alrighty.

Its not the best system out there.  However, for an office desk, its pretty damned nifty.

http://www.sharesenseo.com/

Fill out a survey, convince them that you’ll promote the product, and get a full kit for $15 in shipping.  Its definitely legit — looks like its a joint marketing venture between Phillips and Sara Lee.  I paypaled my payment, and had the unit in about 7 days.   Have used it all day today.

The Good : Its pretty slick looking, generates coffee pretty damned fast, and fits in the corner of my cubicle quite easily.  Also doubles as a hot water maker.  Dirt cheap.  Easy cleanup with the pod system - and drinkable coffee.  Cheaper than paying 1.75 per cup in the building’s snack area.  The water/coffee is PIPING HOT.

The Bad : Its idea of a cup of coffee is 4oz.  That’s a SIP to me.   The basic pods will barely generate 8oz before turning into water - and stir your coffee before sipping or you’ll get something that tastes like dirty water.   Its also still a kitchen appliance - using in the office might some funny looks.   It also sounds like you’ve got a vibrator — put some tape on the metal rack to dampen the vibrations.

The expected : Of course they expect you to use their pods - how else do they make their money?  There are refillable pods and also third party filter replacements.  Water tank is tiny - holds only about 7 cups (28 oz) of water before pinging empty.   Takes up, if you think about it, similar space to an average coffee maker - larger than a hotel coffee maker.  No heating element to keep your coffee warm - you’re SUPPOSED to drink it right away folks.

Anyhow - if you’re willing to sign up to pimp their stuff, $15 is a heck of a deal.

Call for Model : WoW or Fantasy cosplayer.

Humm.

I need a WoW or other Fantasy mmorpg costumer, to pose for a random goofy little photo.  This is not for pay or anything serious, just a funny little thought that just crossed my head.

I also need an office location, preferably a cubicle of some sort.

*rubs hands together and snickers*

New York Narrative - a set on Flickr

After posting and talking about these photos with Vyxle and others, I decided to make a special themed set out of them.

Images to the “New York Narrative” project will be found messages.   I cannot place a message, I can’t use a pre-printed or known viral campaign (unless its taken totally out of contest and manipulated in some way),  etc.

Eventually, I’ll get a story out of this..

Airplanes: Delta “Cozy Suite” Seats Make Economy Class Semi-Tolerable

… Alright.  I have to give major props to Delta for actually attempting something radical and new for their economy seating.  While I wonder how well I’d fit in these seats, just the attempt is good.
