In Memory of the Original “American Otaking”

American Otaking Steve Pearl Passes Away - Anime News Network

ANN made note of the fact that Steve Pearl passed away this past weekend.  He’d been struggling with major medical issues for quite some time.  The last time I saw him was probably back in 2000.  He was one of the original american anime fans, even going so far as to be dubbed the American Otaking by Toshio Okada.   The young whippersnappers of current anime fandom have no idea when they called themselves otakings that the real position was already held.

Rest well Steve, you’ll be missed.

Intel official: Expect less privacy - Yahoo! News

Intel official: Expect less privacy - Yahoo! News

This government official feels that we should not expect the same level of privacy.  Really, we can and should trust the government and business to safeguard our privacy.  After all, they’ve had such a good track record of it.

Besides, since we’ve given up our privacy anyway through the internet, we should make everyone give it up!

I have a definite profile on the internet, but damnit if I don’t think that people should at least have the fucking option to keep their privacy if they so choose.  Hey, Donald Kerr…

THBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBTH!!!!  BUGGER OFF!

Sticky Fingered Coworkers

Its really annoying when you work in an office cubicle and some motherfucker on night crew (or someone in the office in general) has sticky fingers.

Brand new miniture set of speakers disappeared, I suspect while I was out sick.  I never even had a chance to use it.  I’m fucking pissed.

 *edit*  I want a fucking office I can lock. >_<;;

Very tired this week - energy levels still deplete pretty easily.  Had dinner with Tom and Layla last night at Sidewalk — tasty steak and eggs was exactly what I needed.  Thinking I need to take a couple of days to organize my mind and my plans for the next few months - there are alot of things to accomplish and my attention is being drawn in far too many directions.

… on a different note — Hellbuny, its your fault.  I’ve been playing far too much Rune Factory now that I know how to play the damned game.   Grrrrrr….

So I popped by Nekocon this past weekend.  Decided to go a couple of weeks ago just for Saturday and Sunday, flew down super-early Saturday and just got home.   Plane tickets were reserved before the incident that landed me in the hospital, so since I felt up to travelling I didn’t want to give up the trip.   Much love to the whole crew (Kat, Alice, Sean, Alex, Andy, Sam, Lee, Evan, etc) for keeping me from overexerting myself.  A mere two hours of walking around had me exhausted, wheezing and dizzy so I really had to curtail my activity.  Boo.

It was lovely hanging out with people, working out the new camera a bit and playing around.   Got a bunch of interesting Otakon industry relations work done too.   Got to see Scott Meltzer launch the Otakudom and STEAM movies on Sunday, and even signed a DVD (LOL!!#$!).   (Signed it “Mr. Big Fro” — tho muscle memory almost made me sign it Doctor…)

Oh yeah, poker game Saturday night - epic four way battle.  Everyone was playing just right and money cycled around the table for quite a while.  In the end, luck turned and I started gouging everyone, and the game ended with an amazing four way all in where everyone who made their move made the right move.  There was only one winner tho.

Anyhow, I’m blabbering.  I’ll go to bed now.  Maybe post more photos later when I’m alive.

Camera geeking after the cut.
