Visual Revisions

beardless.JPGI switched modes yesterday, from evil card shark Doc to quiet, nice Doc.   Yeah, I shaved off the goatee, at least for now.  Needed to remind myself what I looked like without it.

Will probably go a couple of months without it before growing it back, or maybe I’ll do something else.

Always fun looking in the mirror and seeing someone else.   If only the other edits were as easy to do.   Especially deleting 30 lbs.  That’d be nice.

Photo Post : Hello Moon, Hello Torpedos

September 27th, 2007 No comments

This post is not significant.  Just mildly amusing.  Its been busy at work so I haven’t been very creative or thoughtful — besides I have wii on the brain.  (eww!)

torpedos

Anyhow — I take NJ Transit all the time, and somehow this bright red case on some of the trains never ceases to amuse me.  It also puts me in mind of KMFDM’s “Torpedos”, a nice little mental musical bonus.

moon

It was a very full moon last night.  This normally would never generate a photo post, except for the note that it is a MOTHERFUCKING PAIN to take a picture of the moon at night with a point and shoot that has no manual controls, requiring alot of manipulation, three hands and a high powered flashlight to make the camera do what you want.   Blargh!  So yes, this is a camera geek shot — and only the camera geeks will probably understand why I was happy I got this picture.

I love Shipping Damage

September 26th, 2007 No comments

crush.jpgSome days, I love Amazon.com.   I have a “Prime” membership that I use and abuse the living daylights out of. 80 dollars to have unlimited 2nd day air and buy products tax free is great.   They don’t always have the best price, but when you yank the shipping and tax out of ordering goods the price difference is often acceptable anyway.

However, sometimes their shipping centers need to be spanked with a 2×4 studded with nails.   I ordered what amounts to the “standard” package of extras for the Wii on Tuesday.  Wii Play, another Nunchuck, Zelda, etc.   The shipping center’s idea for packaging this was to shove all my items on their end in a box with no padding.   UPS went, “Oh nice, a crush toy!” and promptly crushed the living daylights out of it.

I hope everything still works.  The Wii Play box was pretty beat up..

Mission Accomplished – Wii now have Whee.

September 25th, 2007 No comments

Well, last night after work I jetted over to the Times Square Toys R Us and picked up a Wii.  It was not hard — they have a healthy stock and they’re still throttling down to 1 per guest.  So, I grabbed mine and prepared to walk home. Then I decided to take care of a requested Christmas order, and picked up a second at the Nintendo Store.  The representative there informed me that the Nintendo Store is having no problem staying in stock.

So, if you are like me and haven’t gotten a Wii, and want to get a Wii, and for some reason can’t find a Wii..  Let me know and I’ll grab one for you.

As for the Wii itself?  Well, I’ll need to buy some supplies before I can go online, and I have nothing but the base unit.  However, my arms are tired from flailing around like an idiot, and my room is so damned tiny, I’m not far enough from the screen for it to register that well so everything’s slightly “off”.   Damned city apartments.. >_<;

Photo Post : Inquisitive Cat

September 25th, 2007 No comments
kitten-05

I ran into this young cat while walking around midtown yesterday evening.  I was not the first person with a camera to spot this cutie, and other people regularly stopped to look at or try to pet it.  As inquisitive as it was it shied away from all human contact unless you were very slow and patient in your approach.

Patience was rewarded with the cat trying to bat at my camera through the fence.  I kept kicking myself since I didn’t have my “real” camera, and my pocket camera couldn’t focus quickly enough to get the pictures I wanted.  Nonetheless, 4 more after the cut.

And now Wii speak of something completely different.

September 24th, 2007 No comments

Alright, so now for something completely different.

I spent all weekend running chores and most of the weekend without a computer.  I started a complete hard drive integrity test that took all weekend to run.  (That’s some deep burn testing!)   Consequently I also got alot of reading done.

I’ve decided I’m going to buy a Wii for myself.. (and for some christmas shopping too) — when you spend too much time checking out deals and stuff, its a sign I should just get it and stop waffling about it.

Sooooo – what do you folks think I should get as initial games?   Remember I tend to prefer strategic or tactical games, action games are not as strong an interest for me.  (which is amusing given the nature of the controller…  And the fact that I totally sucked at most of the games I played in Toronto and Baltimore…)

Oh.. and of course I have to ask…  Poker on the wii, does it exist?  ;)

Thoughts on Cleaning out the Attic

September 24th, 2007 No comments

img_5661.JPGWell, not really cleaning out an attic, but my grandparent’s apartment in this case.

Here’s a photo of an old silver dime I found in the collection that’s now part of my set of random momentos.

More musing after the cut.

Fishy Face

Fishy

Taking good photos of aquatic life takes patience.  This is not a good photo, but its a photo nonetheless.  I’d go to the aquarium on Sunday with my friend Amy but I’m busy this weekend.

I’m both lazy and busy right at the moment.  I have a minor ton of chores to work on.  This weekend will be dedicated to finishing up the chores, cleaning apartments, and if I have the time I’ll finish up some better galleries from Jupe’s wedding.  I have to completely nuke all my data structures and then archive them so I can overhaul my PC next weekend.  Ugh.  (I’m tempted to buy a Wii to keep me occupied while my computer is being nuked.. HEY, wow that’s a great excuse!!! bwahaahahahahaha….)

Dresses — More than meets the eye..

September 20th, 2007 No comments

So I will be the first to admit, I normally don’t care much for fashion shows. I’m very much a down to earth person when it comes to fashion, I like to see clothes that simply fit, flatter a person’s body, and are not seemingly designed for anyone who isn’t thinner than a popsicle stick.

That being said – using special effects to make clothing transform? Damned nifty. (Final dress in the fashion show is NSFW.)

Clearly, I have nothing interesting to say or post this week.
